The coffee shop is the most popular place for those with cheating hearts to meet for the first time, according to a global survey.
However, Hongkongers prefer shopping malls, restaurants and hotels when they carry on an affair.
The survey of more than 100,000 people was conducted by extramarital dating website Ashley Madison, which found 31 percent of respondents said they had their first date at a coffee shop.
Restaurants and bars were second at 18 percent, followed by parks (16 percent) and hotels (11 percent).
Ashley Madison founder Noel Biderman said most members preferred coffee shops because they wish to keep a low-profile, and it is often convenient given their work schedule. He said members usually enjoyed a coffee break after working in the morning, and it would be a great opportunity to fraternize at the same time.
Biderman said if the coffee date went well, they could easily arrange a dinner date.
But Philic Man Hin-nam, director of Global Investigation & Security Consultancy, said most extramarital dates in Hong Kong take place in malls.
"High-end restaurants are also popular as a cheating venue because of the dim lighting and secluded location," she said, adding coffee shops are usually avoided because cheaters fear they can be easily spotted.
Man said unfaithful Hongkongers also like to go on overseas trips with their extramarital partner.
"Hong Kong people generally lower their guard when they go abroad," she said.
